Irlen Screener Training Courses
Irlen Diagnostic Centres throughout Australasia work with children and adults who show symptoms of a visual perceptual dysfunction, a form of visual dyslexia called Irlen Syndrome (IS) or Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome (SSS). Irlen Diagnostic Centres conduct training courses for those interested in learning about the condition and for those who work in the field.
Irlen Screener Training Courses usually run for about two and a half days. Upon successful completion of the course each person will be eligible to receive a Screener’s Certificate signed by Helen Irlen and sent from The Irlen Institute in California. You will then be entitled to charge (see your local Centre for pricing policies) for screening services. You may then refer clients to an Irlen Clinic for further diagnostic assessment and prescription of Irlen coloured lenses.
The first day covers the technique and application of the Irlen Reading Perceptual Schedule (IRPS). The second day covers the history of Scotopic Sensitivity / Irlen Syndrome, medical research from around the world and appropriate reading strategies and remediation. Time will also be available to practice the IRPS, for questions and discussion.
On the third day, clients will be available for each person to complete a full screening under supervision. These clients will come and be screened for no charge. If you are aware of anyone who may have the symptoms of SSS and are prepared to come and be assessed on a training day, please let your training coordinator know in advance.
