Irlen Screeners are trained to assess whether a person is likely to be helped
by Irlen technology. Candidates for assessment should first complete the
Reading Strategies
or
Self Assessment
form and this will indicate whether there is a significant likelihood of
assistance from the technology. If it is clearly so, then you should contact an
Irlen Centre
for an appointment. If it seems less clear, then an appointment with a Screener may be appropriate. The Screener will assess the questionnaire and also monitor performance on a series of standardised tasks. Using coloured overlays, the Screener should be able to demonstrate possible benefits. If it appears that there will be a benefit, the Screener will then refer you to an Irlen Centre for a full assessment. Normally, the cost of the screening will be deducted from the Centre's charges when Irlen filters are specified. Please note that it is often difficult to screen very young children. In many cases with children under 8 years of age, a diagnostic session at an Irlen Centre may be preferable to an initial appointment with an Irlen Screener.
